San Antonio

No, not SATX, but San Antonio de Ibarra which is a 20 minute  or so bus ride from Ibarra. (There are at least 2 San Antonio towns in Ecuador, another near the coast.)

This town is known for its wood working, large and small. The town itself is about the size of Durango, less than 20,000 people. We didn’t go anywhere except to the plaza and a couple of shops across from the plaza.

The first day we went into a shop across from the plaza where there was a wide variety of carved statues and things.

The man working in that shop told us that there would be a wood carving contest starting the following Friday. I had to go back for that. We went early on and then late the following Monday to see the final pieces being put up for display.
